New Build - Ponds

Types of Pond Builds

Why choose a pond? A pond is the Cadillac of water feature builds. It creates a focal point for any landscape as it brings together key elements of running water, rock, wildlife like fish and frogs, combined with natural pond, marginal, and landscaped plants to create an amazing oasis. Escape the hustle and bustle of reality, and retreat to a vacation in your own backyard with one of our many pond options:

Ornamental Pond

A great starter pond (600-1k gallons), which includes a short waterfall & adequate filtration for a small school of goldfish

Koi/Goldfish Pond

A larger pond (1k-2k gallons), with dedicated filtration to handle a larger bio-load and support beautiful butterfly/traditional koi

Deluxe EcoSystem Pond

An advanced eco-system, maximizing water volume & paired with upgraded biological filtration methods

Let us Create Your Backyard Oasis

An ecosystem approach with every pond!

We build your backyard oasis to maximize impact and completely transform the landscape! Just as important to us is the longevity of the feature and minimizing maintenance for the owners we build for. To achieve this, AquaThumb uses Mother Nature as our model. Utilizing nature's lessons and our pond building experience we ensure we incorporate the following decisions/elements and more into each pond we build:

Water Volume

It's important to note that as a pond's volume increase, it equates to a more stable & healthy ecosystem. However, bigger isn't always better, we work with every customer to factor in all variables (fish (type & number), space, budget, evaporation, etc.) to ensure we create the right size pond for you!

Rock & Gravel

At Aquathumb, our new pond builds will always include a full rock and gravel bottom. This mimics nature and provides large amount of benefits to the pond: location for beneficial bacteria & algae to grow, protect the EPDM liner from UV rays, and by selecting the largest rocks feasible for the project we create a natural look to the pond/stream feature.

Plants & Vegetation

Including live plants both within the pond, bog filter, and stream naturalizes the feature by softening the hardscape with a splash of natural color. It also provides natural filtration properties that promote water clarity through a reduction in nitrate and location for beneficial bacteria to cultivate.

Water Flow

Selecting the right pump equates to choosing the heart of the pond. It's a balance of what's required for filtration, capability of skimmer/intake bay, look and feel of stream/waterfalls, and the available budget/cost. We also always consider water movement within the pond to support filtration.

Filtration

There are many factors considered in our design process to calculate the right amount of mechanical and biological filtration for the pond. Some include: Number & type of fish, relative shade of pond, length of stream, water flow, etc. When the right combination of these are met we can expect clear water, happy fish, and a satisfied customer!

Pond Additions

There are countless ways to enhance a standard pond build, we work with our customers to ensure we consider all options to achieve the best outcome:

- Lighting Upgrades          - Intake Bays/Bog Filters

- Fountain/Urn additions   - Fish Caves

- Multiple Streams            - Rainwater harvesting
